Mary Health of the Sick Hospital provides total resident care including grooming, bathing, toileting, ambulating, and feeding those residents who can no longer feed themselves. Registered Nurses (RNs) or Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) administer medications and therapies, including Pain Management, Respiratory Treatments, Skin Treatments, Oxygen Therapy, Intravenous Fluids, Gastrostomy Care, Foley Tube Care and others.
Since the convent is located on the grounds of the hospital, the Sisters (licensed nurses) are always available to fill in for lay staff when necessary. Three separate report times throughout the day for both licensed nurses and nursing assistants enables the nursing team to always have updated information regarding any changes in a resident’s condition.
Each new resident at Mary Health of the Sick undergoes extensive physical therapy evaluation upon admission. The results determine whether or not the person will receive physical, speech, or occupational therapy. Often therapy is prescribed because the incoming resident has broken a hip, had a stroke, or undergone some other major medical condition. (Medicare places a time limit on the length of therapy).
Although placement in a skilled nursing facility is often the best option for everyone involved, the placement does not happen without emotional turmoil. Our Social Services Department provides support, insight, and knowledge to each resident and family member as they adjust to a new environment and life stage.
There are two large recreation rooms where the residents enjoy a myriad of entertaining activities from game time to news updates to musical performances. Two large-screen TV allow our residents to enjoy their favorite shows and movies together. In addition, a game room offers even more activities. These rooms are set up for dining at round tables with linen cloths and napkins. Our family members are always encouraged to come and join their loved ones.
Delicious, nutritious meals are prepared daily under the guidance of a professional food supervisor. Breakfasts, lunches, and dinners are designed around each residents’ personally prescribed diet plan. Attractively served, prescribed diets enhance the most finicky of appetites.
Our on-site laundry operates 24-hours a day a week; washes, irons, and returns clothes and linens to residents’ rooms. In lieu of disposables, we use only cotton products because cotton linens and under pads are softer on the skin, aid in maintaining healthy skin, help to control odors and, moreover, are environmentally friendly.
